History

Two centuries of history of fire and sillica

More than two Centuries of history and tradition make the glassware Kvetna, one of the oldest and largest companies in the sector in the Czech Republic. Was in fact the 1794, when Alois, Prince of Lichtenstein, decided to found the factory. The area in which, even today, is the facility location was chosen due the wood of the great forests surrounding suited to the furnaces deposits of fine siliceous sand to produce crystal. The factory equipped with two furnaces, started to produce since 1795, and by the mid-19th century the company was acquired Zahns & Co, of Dutch origin. In 1880 was opened the first store in the Bohemian village of Chribská which followed, after a short time, one in Vienna.

Glassworks

the production of crystal unleaded utility glasses, a wide scale of colorful glass – Citrin, Amber, Rosalin, Light Blue, Light Green, Golden Rose, Grenade, Aquamarine, Turquoise, Dark Green, Dark Blue, Dark Smoke, and Grey Smoke.

 

Grinding

a surfacing glass decoration is made by hydrofluoric acid which is melting on the glass surface. The more concentrated acid, the more visible is grinding. Places that should be clear without grinding are covered and protected by asphalt lacquers, wax, natural resins leaded and polystyrene colors. Grinding is made in the common warm bath. The warmer bath, the faster is the process. However, the protectors melt, too.

 

Cutting

Decorating

the process of decorative cutting. Sides and bottoms are shallowly and deeply decorated and then mechanically polished. In this process there are used various types of discs that are inclined according to the grinding direction.

 

Ornaments

the glass surface is decorated by color layers, glitters, gold and platinum that are fixed by firing. A paintbrush is usually used (made of squirrel‘s, badger‘s and marten‘s hair) as well as spray painting, wrapping and covering. Reproductive techniques are also used. These are a silk-screen printing, print and transfer. Painted and decorated glass is then fired in the kiln which proves better color fixation on the surface of the product.
